Ecstatic Eagles: Marquette moves on to Elite 8

by WDJT Sports

WASHINGTON, DC - Marquette's first trip to the Elite Eight since 2003 is a reality, thanks to the Golden Eagles' arguably most dominant performance in a tournament game in that ten year stretch.

Marquette jumped out a double digit lead after just 12 minutes of game action, then never took the foot off the gas pedal, knocking Miami from the tournament 71-61 and advancing to the Elite Eight in Washington, D.C.

Vander Blue, the hero in Marquette's first two tournament wins, tallied 14 points against the Hurricanes. Jamil Wilson had 16 to lead MU, while Davante Gardner added 14 points.

Marquette had advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in 2011 and 2012, but lost both years in the round of 16. This time around, a tenacious defensive effort has propelled Marquette one round further... and one win away from an appearance in the Final Four.

Marquette will face Big East foe Syracuse in the Elite Eight Saturday at 3:30PM on CBS 58.
