Detroit beats Milwaukee with balanced attack
DETROIT (AP) -- Ray McCallum and Jason Calliste scored 13 points apiece and Detroit pulled away in the second half to defeat Milwaukee 74-59 Thursday night in the Horizon League opener for both teams. Doug Anderson and Evan Bruinsma added 12 points each, and Nick Minnerath had 10 for the Titans (9-5), who won their 16th straight home game dating back to last season. Paris Gulley led Milwaukee (4-11) with 22 points, and James Haarsma had 11. The game was tied 40-40 with 15:48 remaining when McCallum hit a 3-pointer to start a 13-2 run for Detroit. After a Milwaukee basket, the Titans followed with another 13-2 run to take their biggest lead of the game, 66-46, on a layup by Bruinsma with 5:48 left in the game. Detroit shot 47 percent from the field and hit 14 of 15 free throws.
