Brewers sign Lohse to bolster young rotation

by WDJT Sports

PHOENIX - Kyle Lohse showed up at the Brewers spring training complex Monday morning, not for negotiations, but for a physical exam.

Lohse has joined the Brewers rotation, signing a 3 year, $33 million contract. Lohse was one of the top free agent pitchers available this offseason, but many teams balked at signing Lohse thanks to new MLB rules requiring teams to give up a first round draft pick when signing high-profile free agents.

Lohse went 16-3 for the Cardinals last year.

The Brewers were hoping to go with young pitching in the 2013 rotation, but several young pitchers struggled throughout spring training, causing the Brewers to turn to Lohse.

CBS 58's special "Building the Brew Crew 2013" airs Saturday at 9:00 PM.
