TEMPE, AZ - Joel Stave hiked the ball with fewer than 20 seconds left in the game and the Badgers down by two points. The sequence of events in the next 20 seconds left the team - and Badgers nation - stunned.

Stave quickly took a knee, then placed the ball in the middle of the field. An Arizona State lineman, thinking the ball was live, fell on it. The referees paused to sort out the situation as the final seconds elapsed. The Badgers were unable to spike the ball and set up a field goal, and they lost 32-30 amid a flurry or bewildered players and coaches from Wisconsin, and wild celebration on the Arizona State side.

Melvin Gordon ran for 193 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Badgers (2-1) loss. Wisconsin opens its conference season Saturday against Purdue at Camp Randall Stadium.
