Wisconsin Couple Arrested after Drinking and Driving in Reverse; 3-Year-Old Found Home Alone

REEDSBURG, WI (CHANNEL 3000) A 3-year-old was left alone in an apartment Thursday afternoon while her parents and a relative went drinking and driving around town.

Three Reedsburg residents were arrested after they were found in a vehicle that was driven backward through a stop sign without stopping, according to a release from Reedsburg police.

Police said that the vehicle was spotted at 2 p.m. on South Walnut Street and Vine Street going backward through the intersection without stopping. All three people in the vehicle had been drinking, police said.

The driver, Justin L. Salefski, 26, was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

The officer said that Salefski’s wife, Kendra N. Staniszewski-Salefski, 25, who was also in the vehicle, mentioned that their 3-year-old child was left alone at their apartment.

Officers immediately responded to the apartment and took custody of the child who was later turned over to a family member.

Staniszewski-Salefski was arrested on suspicion of a probation violation.

The third passenger, Michael J. Staniszewski, 21, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of bail jumping.

Additional charges for child neglect are being forwarded to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office, according to police.
