Wisconsin at One-Day Supply of O-Negative Blood

BloodCenter of Wisconsin currently has a critical need for O negative blood – with less than a one-day supply. There has been a substantial demand for O negative blood, given several trauma cases in Milwaukee, which required more than 70 units of O-negative blood.

In addition, weather conditions are contributing to missed donation appointments at a time when it is already difficult for collections. Blood donations decrease in summer months when the need is the greatest to treat accident victims and others in emergency situations.

Anyone 17 or older who is in general good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. Parental consent is required for 16-year-olds to donate. The entire process takes about an hour. Donors should bring a photo ID that includes birth date.
