Warning about Disposing of Trash from Holiday Celebrations

CBS 58-- Before Christmas it was so-called porch pirates stealing packages from outside of homes, but now police warn your empty boxes could put you at risk.

As your throwing out your boxes from holiday gifts, make sure to break them down and put them inside a garage or recycling bin.

River Hills Police Department posted this warning, "... remember that any boxes you leave outside your garage, next to the garbage can, or hanging out of the garbage can are all advertisements for what you have in your house. It makes shopping easy for criminals when they have an idea of high value items that are in the home. If you don't have anywhere else to legally dump your boxes, make sure to break them down or cut them into small enough pieces that they can fit in your trash can with out hanging out the top."
