MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A 4-year-old girl spent the night in a van at Milwaukee's tow lot after the vehicle was towed there following an OWI arrest.
The little girl was inside the minivan for eight hours until someone heard her crying. A city engineer with the Department of Public Works says they got a call to tow a minivan from Milwaukee Police around 12:30 a..m. Tuesday after the driver was arrested for OWI. The woman driver and a 10-month-old baby were taken from the car, but a 4-year-old girl was somehow left behind without anyone knowing.
Once the car was taken to the city's tow lot, the vehicle was checked from the outside per protocol. Despite this, the little girl went unnoticed.
She remained in the car until around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when she was found very upset. She was then taken to the hospital for evaluation.
"Obviously this shouldn't happen and we want to make sure it never happens again, if there's something more we can be doing, a more thorough exam of the vehicle. We will be doing that in the future," said Jeff Polenske with the Milwaukee Department of Public Works.
CBS 58 has reached out to Milwaukee Police about the incident.
