Urban fish farming

MILWAUKEE - Urban farmer Will Allen's Growing Power is famous for growing healthy food for the community, but now they're also raising fish. Growing Power has teamed up with the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee's Fresh water Sciences to develop the program. Right now, they're raising about 100-thousand Lake Perch and Tilapia a year and all of it is sold in the local community. The fish raised at Growing Power is always tested to make sure it is safe to eat. Allen says because of water pollution about 50 percent of all fish sold is farm raised and that percentage is expected to raise to 75 percent at some point. That will create opportunities for people to get involved and start fish farming businesses. Allen says there's a lot more to raising fish then meets the eye so proper training is incredibly important.
