MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke released a statement calling Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's response to a 10% increase in violent crime "weak and disingenuous". This comes just one day after the Milwaukee Police Department released their 2012 crime stats report.

In his release, Sheriff Clarke says the mayor furloughed 1,500 police officers three day each resulting in 4,500 fewer officer days to respond to violent crimes. The sheriff also says the city has failed to fill over 200 vacancies that have existed during Barrett's time as Mayor of Milwaukee.

The City of Milwaukee has yet to release a response to Clarke's criticism.
