Zipcars coming to Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE--Driving around Milwaukee may be a little easier now thanks to a new partnership between the city and the world's largest car sharing program.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says the new deal between the Brew City and Zipcar is a perfect pairing, including saving parking space and improving air quality. The annual cost is $60 for a membership.

Third District Alderman Nik Kovac is in perfect alignment with this car sharing program. He feels this is a good way to showcase the east side of Milwaukee.

Both a Ford Focus and a Toyota Prius are currently available on a first come, first serve basis. The home location is on Farwell near North Avenue. You can use your smartphone to make reservations, lock and unlock the vehicle, and honk the horn to locate it.

To become a Zipcar member, you have to either sign up online at or call this toll free number 1-866-4-ZIP. Rates vary per hour and per day. Gas, insurance, and up to 180 miles of daily driving are included in the price.
