Wednesday night storms leave their mark

GLENDALE---Fire crews rushed to a home Wednesday night that had been struck by lightning. It happened around 7:00 p.m.  in the 1100 block of Silver Spring.

The residents say they heard a loud boom and then saw the smoke.

Responding fire crews had to knock out a ceiling to put out the fire that followed.

CBS 58's Bill Walsh says there was extensive smoke damage inside the home.

There were no injuries but the residents were very rattled by the incident.

The sound brought resident Greg Bohman out to the scene. He said he heard the lighting strike from two blocks away.

Victory Church in Brookfield was left with a huge gaping hole in the roof after a large tree came crashing down on top of it.

Rain was pouring in through the hole and the 120 worshipers who were inside evacuated safely with no injuries.

A power outage on the east side left thousands in the dark with no traffic lights operating.
