TOWN OF ADDISON -- A multi-car crash killed a passenger and injured a driver along Highway 33 in Washington County Monday morning.  It also blocked traffic for about a mile-long stretch.

It happened around 8:15 a.m. between Aurora Road and Highway WW.  Four westbound vehicles were stopped at a construction zone checkpoint.  An SUV headed west on Hwy 33 didn't stop and crashed into the rear-most vehicle.

That caused a chain reaction of cars hitting each other, pushing one car into the eastbound ditch and leaving another car in the opposite lane.

The passenger in the first car hit died at the scene.  She's described as a 50-year-old West Bend woman.  The driver of her car, a 33-year-old West Bend woman, was taken to Froedert Hospital in Wauwatosa.  She is expected to survive.

The driver of the SUV who caused the crash was taken to St. Joseph's hospital in West Bend.  She is also expected to survive.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department believes inattentive driving by the woman behind the wheel of the SUV caused the crash.

Traffic was rerouted around the scene along County Highway D to the north.
