Officials investigate 2 fires in same Union Grove neighborhood

RACINE -- Authorities are investigating after two fires broke out in the same Union Grove neighborhood.

Firefighters first responded to a home near 12th Ave and New St around 3:30 a.m. for a report of a basement fire.

There were no active flames, but the house was filled with smoke.

A few minutes later, firefighters spotted a fire just a block away near 11th Ave and New St.

A garage with vehicles inside was on fire.

Residents at both homes were removed safely and there were no injuries.

The cause of both fires is still under investigation.

A damage estimate has not been determined for either structure.

Officials are still investigating to determine if the fires are related.
