UPDATE: Suspect in custody for Kenosha murder
KENOSHA -- On Wednesday the Kenosha Police Department announced they were charging Joshua P. Braithwaite with first degree intentional homicide in connection with the death of Lashe Zalar.
Braithwaite is being held in the Kenosha County Jail for several different crimes related to the death of Zalar.
On July 9 at 10:20 a.m., the Kenosha Fire Department responded to Nedweski Park in reference to a brush fire. While the fire was being extinguished, the body of a female was located in the burn area.
The investigation determined the victim was 20-year-old Lashe Zalar, who had been missing.
According to the criminal complaint, Braithwaite is accused of kidnapping, sexually assaulting, and killing Zalar.
The forensic pathologist who performed the autopsy determined the cause of Zalar's death was smoke inhalation and burns.
Zalar was allegedly kidnapped from Nedweski Park and sexually assaulted by Braithwaite on July 9.
Braithwaite was previously charged with a felony and was on extended supervision in Kenosha.
Police anticipate that the suspect will have his initial appearance on Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
