MILWAUKEE WI -- It's an anxious time for the LGBT community and their supporters as they await the final outcome of arguments before the Supreme Court.

It is opening day for arguments before the High Court on The Defense of Marriage Act or DOMA and Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California.

A crowd of gay marriage supporters gathered to rally and hold vigil at the Plymouth United Church of Christ in Milwaukee, and LGBT friendly church.

Wisconsin recognizes civil unions but LGBT supporters are hoping for more than that, they want marriage equality.

Recent polls show a majority of Americans now support same-sex marriage but it still has many fervent opponents.

The court isn't expected to hand down a decision on the case until June
