39-year-old Milwaukee man fatally shot by two police officers

MILWAUKEE -- 39-year-old Donnell Carter was shot and killed by two Milwaukee police officers after refusing orders from police to drop his handgun.

Police say it happened just before 2:00 a.m. on Sherman and Burleigh near a BP gas station.

Two officers were in the area responding to a fight when they heard gunshots. When officers arrived at the BP station they encountered Carter, who was armed.

Police say they shot Carter several times after he failed to drop his weapon. He was transported to Froedtert Hospital where he later died.

Police could not release any more details about the suspect.

One of the officers is 31-years-old with six years of service, the other is a 27-year-old with five years of service. Both officers have been placed on administrative duty.
