Mom accused of abandoning baby makes first court appearanceMILWAUKEE---Courtroom observers aren't quite sure what to make of the behavior of 22-year-old Jasmine Oliver. Oliver made her first court appearance Friday after she was charged with child abuse. Oliver allegedly threw her baby to the pavement and left the child. According to the criminal complaint she then approached a police officer and told him she no longer wanted her child. Court officials felt the need to repeat questions to Oliver to see if she understood. Police say she told them she "popped" her baby in the mouth. Doctors report extensive bruising and facial injuries to the toddler. They also found older wounds that had healed. The child is expected to recover. Oliver's bond was set at $10,000.
