MILWAUKEE -- Father Scott Pilarz officially became Marquette University's 23rd president, Friday.

At his inauguration, Pilarz talked about improving access to the university without sacrificing the quality of the education.

"For Marquette to remain authentically Marquette, access and excellence cannot be viewed as an either/or proposition, but rather a both/and situation in order to serve God's greater glory and future generation of students," said Pilarz.

The 52-year-old grew up in New Jersey, is a huge Bruce Springsteen fan and had been serving as president at the University of Scranton for the past 8-years.
