Leroy Butler event canceled due to support for gay NBA player

WISCONSIN -- Former Green Bay Packer Leroy Butler was scheduled to speak at a Wisconsin church, but was asked to cancel his event. Butler says a member told him the pastor wanted him to cancel his event, because he showed support for openly gay NBA player Jason Collins.

On his Twitter account Butler said, "Then I was told, because I said congrats to Jason Collins on Twitter. I said really? We have a contract, he said check the moral cause."

Butler says he was told that he could have his event if he removed the tweet, apologized and asked God for forgiveness. On his Twitter account, he says he declined the pastor's offer.

Butler ended his late night Twitter postings saying "Only God can judge."
