PEWAUKEE -- NFL player JJ Watt returns to his hometown of Pewaukee to raise money for his foundation.

"It's great for me to have an opportunity to come back home where it all started for me, and try to make an impact on this community," said Watt.

His 5k Run/Walk at Waukesha Technical College on Saturday sold out after 500 people signed up for the race. The event raised $37,000, according to organizers.

The money will go to the Justin J. Watt Foundation which funds after-school athletic programs. Watt says he learned about hard work, teamwork and accountability through athletics and he wants other children to have the same opportunity.

"We want to make sure that those kids get every opportunity to have success. That they have every tool possible to allow them to have a great life."

Watt played football for the Wisconsin Badgers and now plays for the Houston Texans.
