WALWORTH COUNTY-- A Walworth County inmate is dead following an incident with a Sheriff’s Deputy at the Lakeland Medical Center.

The altercation happened around 6:45 p.m. Monday while the inmate was undergoing tests and observations for a personal medical issue.

The inmate had been identified as 18-year-old Alfredo Emilio Villarreal from Janesville.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Department said that Villarreal attacked the deputy in an attempt to escape custody.

He punched and kicked the Deputy in the face multiple times.

The Deputy called for assistance and multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the medical center.

A Taser was deployed on Villarreal, but it failed to stop him.

He used a chair to try to break out the window in his room.

That failed and he tried to strike the Deputy over the head with the chair.

The Deputy discharged a handgun striking him.

Lifesaving measures were administered, but Villarreal died at the scene.

An investigation into this incident is being conducted by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department.
