Elderly man to stand trial in shooting death of teen neighborMILWAUKEE-- An elderly man accused of fatally shooting his 13-year-old neighbor has been ruled competent to stand trial. 76-year-old John Spooner has been charged with first degree intentional homicide in the shooting death of Darius Simmons. Spooner alleged that the teen was involved in recent break-ins of his home and shot him outside of his home on May 31. Spooner's attorney raised concerns about his clients metal fitness to stand trail. But according to a doctor's report presented in court on Monday the psychiatrist who examined Spooner determined that he was mentally competent to stand trial. His trial is set to begin May 6. |
