2 dead in West Allis duplex fire

WEST ALLIS-- The West Allis Fire Department responded to a fire at the upper level of a duplex near 57th St and Lapham around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Two children were injured and had to be taken to Children's Hospital for treatment.

Two other children were reported missing, but crews later learned they died in the fire.

The two injured children are ages 4 and 14.

They suffered burns, but are expected to be ok.

The 14 year-old reportedly rescued his 4-year-old brother and tried to help the two others, but couldn't get to them in time.

Fire crews recovered two bodies from the fire.

Officials couldn't confirm the identity of the bodies, but family members said that it was the children who were missing were both teens.

Several residents from the area were evacuated for their safety.

Fire and Police Department officials are working to determine a cause and origin of the fire.

Officials said that it does not appear that there were any adults home at the time.
