Burlington Rallies Around Displaced Plant Workers
Burlington -- When the Echo Lakes Food plant went up in flames a few weeks ago, it took away more than a plant. It took jobs from hundreds of workers. Now the community is rallying to support those workers. Love Incorporated opened its food pantry to more people.
"Folks that are attending our food pantry already come once a month," Love Incorporated Executive Director Bill Schoessling said. "Now if they can show us that they did work at the food plant, they can come once a week."
Racine County also hosted a job fair in downtown Burlington Wednesday.
"Really it's been a collaborative effort," Racine County Executive Jim Ladwig said. "Throughout government and now you can see the partnership with the private sector as well to help these individuals and get them back to work as quickly as possible."
There were more than 50 employers at the fair.
