Toddler's Body Found Buried in Back Yard, Suspect Arrested

WARSAW, Ind. (ABC 57) - A Warsaw man has been preliminarily charged with one count of murder in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old girl, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office.

Around 10:24 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to #53 EMS C17 Lane in Warsaw in regards to a custody complaint.

Christopher Grimmett, 29, told deputies he was babysitting his girlfriend's daughter, Adalin Stamper, until the girl's maternal grandmother picked her up.

Deputies said they determined this information was false and found out Grimmett had been at his brother's house, 1835 Sue Avenue earlier in the day.

Deputies received permission to search the Sue Avenue house and property.

During a search of the property, deputies said they located a shallow grave in the back yard and found the body of Adalin Stamper.

Deputies said Grimmett provided a statement that led to his arrest.

He is being held on a prosecutorial hold for murder in the Kosciusko County Jail.

Stamper's cause of death is pending autopsy.
