Tenants without heat in Milwaukee have options

MILWAUKEE -- It's the last day of January, but there are still a few months to go before the winter season wraps up.

CBS 58 is looking into the problem of Milwaukee renters who find themselves without heat during the brutal cold snaps that have swept through the area.

Since January 1, the city has received more than 150 \"no heat\" complaints.

Regina Sims with the Department of Neighborhood Services says living in a space with no heat is not only dangerous, but also illegal.

When tenants reach out to the Department of Neighborhood Services for assistance, city inspectors make contact with landlords and give them 24 hours to restore the heat.

Sims says repair time is typically within the 24 hour time limit given to landlords.

If you are renting a property in the City of Milwaukee and find yourself without heat and your landlord is not working to fix the issue, call the city's complaint hotline at (414) 286-2268.
