IndyFest set to launch at Milwaukee Mile in June
MILWAUKEE-The Milwaukee Mile is the oldest continuously operating auto racing facility in the world, but it's been having financial trouble the last few years.
Trying to help, racing legend Michael Andretti, he was in Milwaukee Thursday to announce a new race and festival called IndyFest.
"This is the heartland for Indy racing fans," Andretti said.
Andretti, a three time winner at the Milwaukee Mile, was upset over the troubles the track has been having and its lack of Indy races.
He wanted to make sure racing was held there for the long haul.
The IndyCars return June 15 and16 for 225 laps.
There will also be additional events going on to give the race a festival feel.
"I think what [Andretti] and his team have done well is take a formula that he's great at, and a formula we're great at, festivals, and we have something special here," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett explained.
