Students celebrate Arbor Day by planting trees in Sherman Park neighborhood

Today is arbor day and to celebrate the city invited a group of students to plant trees in the Sherman Park neighborhood.

Kids from Townsend Street School learned that the city has one and a half million trees. They then got to grow that number by planting a tree of their own.

\"Boys and girls in the city of Milwaukee have helped us plant trees and what I find so special about that is planting a tree is really a commitment to the future of our city because it says that we believe the tree will be here, and in order for the tree to be here that means the city has to be here,\" said Mayor Tom Barrett.

DPW also demonstrated how a climb and prune a tree to teach kids about careers in the forestry industry.
