Smoke alarm helps family of 7 safely escape fire in Racine

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A family of seven was able to safely escape a house fire on Fox Drive in Racine early this morning.

A working smoke alarm alerted the family to a fire around 4:44 a.m. on Sunday.

Fire crews arrived on scene within three minutes and found fire in the basement ceiling.

The fire was quickly extinguished but it did cause roughly $20,000 in damages to the home.

No one was injured.

The Red Cross is providing temporary shelter.

The fire remains under investigation.
