Sheriff Clarke to lead motorcycle safety press conference

MILWAUKEE -- Warmer weather means more motorcycles will be sharing the road with other vehicles, and Sheriff David Clarke is urging drivers to be aware of motorcyclists.

Clarke will hold a Motorcycle Safety Awareness press conference at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Harley-Davidson Museum parking lot.

Motorcyclists from Rolling Thunder, ABATE of Wisconsin and other organizations will also be in attendance.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 112 motorcyclists, including passengers, died in traffic crashes in 2012 in Wisconsin, the second-highest motorcycle fatality rate on record in the state since 1986.

About 2,396 motorcyclists were injured on Wisconsin roads in 2012, a 14 percent increase from the nearly 2,1000 cyclists injured in the state the year prior.

CBS 58's Marshanna Hester has a preview of this afternoon's press conference.
