MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – CBS 58 is waiting on the U.S. Marshal’s Office to confirm if convicted murderer Dwayne Chaney has been caught.

Chaney has been on the run since last Thursday. He left during his own murder trial as he had been out on bond and wearing a GPS ankle bracelet that he cut off when he ran.

Even though he wasn’t inside the courtroom, he was convicted for killing 21-year-old Michael Prescott in November 2015 while Prescott was warming up his girlfriend’s car. Chaney wasn’t in custody because the state didn’t give him the speedy trial he requested in time.

Instead, he signed a document promising to show up to court, something the victim’s mother says shouldn’t have been an option since he had run away from police in the past.

“We weren’t very happy about it at all. We knew that since he had already proven to everyone that he was definitely a flight risk, he had eluded police for 19 months before and successful at it, why would he not do it again?” said Michael Prescott’s mother, Rosalind Prescott McClinton.

McClinton says she plans on filing a complaint with the City and County for what she believes in negligence in the case.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Authorities are still searching for a convicted murderer, two days after he first escaped.

Milwaukee Police and the U.S. Marshals are asking for help to find 25-year-old Dwayne Chaney and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Zuri London.

Chaney is considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities believe the two are driving a white 2012 Scion xB with license plate 970-YZT.

According to Milwaukee Police, Chaney cut off his GPS tracker Thursday night, just hours before a jury convicted him of killing Michael Prescott.

Anyone with information is asked to call authorities at 414-297-3707.
