Sculpture Milwaukee installing artwork around downtown

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee is starting to fill up with huge sculptures. Crews were busy installing one on Wednesday as part of Sculpture Milwaukee.

The free outdoor urban art experience first came to Milwaukee last year. Wednesday’s sculpture is made of black and white concrete and weighs 18,000 pounds.

“It’s an interesting structure where the base, the bottom half is integral to the top half. In fact, the bottom half was the mold for the top half,” said sculptor Mel Kendrick.

More than 20 sculptures will be placed along Wisconsin Avenue from 6th Street to O’Donnell Park. They will all be unveiled in June.
