REPORT: Woman was Dancing on I-43 Before Being Fatally Struck

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office released more information about the woman who was struck by a vehicle on I-43 northbound at Canal Street.

According to a release, on Monday around 10:50 p.m., deputies responded to a call about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on I-43 northbound at Canal Street in the Marquette interchange.  A woman was in a lane of traffic, unconscious, but still breathing.

Witnesses reported a woman dancing in traffic lanes, and then facing oncoming traffic. She was struck by a red Chevy SUV, and then by a Chevy Impala.  The SUV left the scene. Several vehicles stopped traffic to prevent her from being struck again.

The pedestrian was identified as Bailey Hallio, age 23, of Milwaukee.  She was transported to Froedtert Hospital, and was pronounced dead at 11:27 p.m.

The driver of the SUV returned to the scene and said his vehicle did not strike the pedestrian.

Due to damage to his vehicle and witness accounts, he was arrested for Hit and Run Causing Death, a felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.  The case will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office.

The freeway was closed northbound at National Avenue until 11:20 p.m. while detectives conducted the crash investigation.
