Red Kettle Christmas Campaign Launches Friday

The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County will launch its annual Red Kettle Christmas Campaign on Friday, November 6 at the Milwaukee Public Market’s Palm Garden from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. The kickoff event, ‘Tweet Then Eat’ encourages guests and the public to tweet along with The Salvation Army at #SAMilwaukee while enjoying a pancake breakfast.

“This year’s Red Kettle Christmas Campaign goal in Milwaukee is $3.9 Million. It’s an ambitious goal needed to sustain year-round programming for more than 80 critical programs and services administered by The Salvation Army. The economy continues to make it difficult for many families and we’ve seen firsthand a significant increase in the number of new people coming to our doors for help,” said Major Dan Jennings, Salvation Army Divisional Commander for Wisconsin & Upper Michigan.

“It’s especially hard during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, with people still seeking employment and not knowing how they will provide for their families. Our homeless shelter continues to be full to capacity every week and families are in need of emergency food every day. To keep pace with the needs of area families we must rely on generous people in our community to open their hearts with a donation to help their neighbors this Christmas season.”

From its humble beginnings as a Salvation Army captain’s startup program in 1891 in San Francisco, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown into one of the most recognizable and important charitable campaigns in the United States. It provides toys for kids, coats for the homeless, food for the hungry and countless social service programs year-round.
