Racine Police warn tax season means spike in IRS scams

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) – Racine Police are issuing a warning about a scam where people are told they owe the IRS money.

While the scams aren’t new, they definitely pick up during the tax season. Usually, scammers will call pretending to be the IRS and claiming you owe money and will be taken to jail if you don’t pay.

Police say you should never give out personal information to anyone over the phone and if you get a call like this, hang up and contact police.
