Racine & Me, February 25, 2017: Prom Through the Decades, VITA Tax Program, and the Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps

Jacob Kittilstad started by exploring his vanity and talking about his recent issues with facial hair. He mused about what kind of beard he would grow if he was allowed to by management.
His first guest from the Junior League of Racine talked about their new event: "Prom Through the Decades". If you're from Racine you know how big of a deal prom is, and the Junior League's event will allow people to relive their glory days - or re-do what was promised to be the most romantic night of their lives. All proceeds will go to enhance the well-being of women and children and provide a legacy of trained volunteers within the community. Learn more about this event here.
Next, the United Way of Racine County stopped in to talk about their VITA program which offers tax-preparation help to people with moderate-to-low incomes. The program is completely free but appointments are required. The United Way of Racine County manages the program countywide, with 5 sites (3 in the city of Racine, 2 in Burlington). Finally, representatives of the Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps talked about the future of their music program, as well as their history. 2017 is a rebuilding year for the group but they say they’re the most cost-effective music program for people wanting to stay involve. The meeting was capped with a performance of Auld Lang Syne by a renowned bugalist and longtime member of the Kilties.
