Poached Deer "Bow Tie" Mounted at Wehr Nature Center

Remember that gorgeous deer folks used to love to watch in Whitnall Park.

Tragically just this past fall, the eight and a half year old whitetail deer, nicknamed Bow Tie, was shot and killed near the Menomonee River in Tosa.

Many in the community took the loss personally.

On Tuesday a special mount was unveiled at the Wehr Nature Center.

The money for the tribute was raised by local photographer Randy Crawford  and Jim Bagley who caught the poachers.

“What the nature staff here will do is use Bowtie as a wildlife ambassador and be able to do education on the pro's and con's and what the right ethical hunting,” said Guy Smith, Chief of Operations, Milwaukee County Parks.

The parks department says this was the best way it could find to take such a negative and turn it into a positive.
