Playtex recalls children’s plates and bowls due to choking hazard

UNDATED (CBS 58) – Millions of plates and bowls for children are being recalled because they could pose a choking hazard.

Playtex Products is recalling 3.6 million plates and bowls because a clear plastic layer over the graphics can peel or bubble from the surface of the plates and bowls. The company says they’ve received 372 reports of the plastic layer bubbling or peeling with 11 reports of the plastic found in children’s mouths, including four reports of choking on a piece of the clear plastic layer.

The plates have various printed designs including cars, construction scenes, animals, princesses, superheroes, and more and were sold separately and together as sets. The plates and bowls were sold at stores including Babies ‘R’ Us, Target, Walmart, and Amazon.com from October 2009 through August 2017 for about $2.50 for a single plate or bowl and $15 for a set.

Those who have the plates should stop using them and take them away from young kids. They can contact Playtex for a full refund.
