WALES, Wis. (CBS 58) -- In a press conference Thursday afternoon Waukesha County Sheriff Eric Severson said that deputies were dispatched around 6:20 Wednesday evening for a report of a burglary in progress. The caller said that an unknown man was forcing himself into her home and her 76-year-old husband was fighting the man.

"It was basically a struggling match, a grappling match, a punching match," said Waukesha County Sherirff Eric Severson.

During the fight, the 33-year-old man went unconscious and unresponsive. The homeowner said that tried first aid before deputies arrived.

The first Deputy arrived on scene within five minutes after the 911 call and tried CPR which was unsuccessful. The intruder was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators believe the intrusion may have been induced by or contributed to drug use. They are waiting for the autopsy and toxicology results to confirm.

Deputies believe the incident is isolated and there is no further threat to the public. The suspect is believed to have lived in the neighborhood.

The homeowners have been cooperating with police and were not hurt during the encounter. No weapons were ever used.

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A home invasion turned deadly when an intruder died during a fight with a 76-year-old homeowner, according to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office. 

Around 6:30 Wednesday night, deputies were called to a burglary in progress at a home on Dylan Road in the Village of Wales, just southwest of the intersection of Highway 18 and 83. 

The 76-year-old man fought with a 33-year-old intruder. Investigators say at some point, the 33-year-old man became unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) – One person is dead following a home invasion on Wednesday in the Village of Wales.

The sheriff’s department says officers were called to a burglary in progress at a home around 6:21 p.m.

A 76-year-old male homeowner was involved in a physical fight with a 33-year-old man. Authorities say the 33-year-old man became unresponsive during the fight and was later pronounced dead.

No other information is being released.

The incident remains under investigation.
