Officer Nearly Struck by Car After Suspect Wanted for Retail Theft Flees Scene

WISCONSIN - A subject wanted on retail theft charges fled from LaCrosse and Onalaska officers shortly before noon on Wednesday.

Once the subject merged onto I90, members of the Wisconsin State Patrol joined the pursuit. The vehicle continued to flee at a high rate of speed and the pursuit was terminated.

The vehicle was located in the parking lot of Loves Truck Stop in Oakdale. When officers approached the subject, he returned to his vehicle and fled the parking lot, nearly striking an officer in the process. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle attempted to pass a truck and livestock trailer on the median side of the roadway, lost control, struck the trailer, and the car became disabled.

The subject fled the scene on foot and was apprehended a short time later in a nearby field.
