"No risk to public safety" at construction site near Milwaukee Public Market

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Public Market was evacuated just before 12:00 p.m. after flames began flaring from a hole construction crews working on I-794 construction drilled. The Milwaukee Fire Department announced there is no longer any threat to public safety near the site.

Construction crews were digging about 90 feet down while trying to install pilings. That's when a flame emerged from the ground. We Energies says it remains unclear exactly what construction crews hit. We Energies says there are no gas reads or odors at the site. The construction site is adjacent to the building.

All streets adjacent to the Milwaukee Public Market has been reopened.
