NEWaukee adds floating lantern celebration to Urban Island Beach Party Friday evening

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- NEWaukee is adding a floating lantern celebration to the 8th annual Urban Island Beach Party at Lakeshore State Park Friday evening. At dusk guests will be invited to light and launch a floating lantern into the State Park inlet.

The Urban Island Beach Party is free and open to the public for attendees and lantern spectators. The event starts at 4 p.m. and lasts until 11 p.m. To participate in the lantern celebration, guests are encouraged to pre-order their lantern online for $20 at www.urbanislandparty.com. Online sales end at midnight on Thursday, August 2 and only a limited number of lanterns are available for purchase on-site.

The Urban Island Beach Party features local vendors including Iron Grate BBQ, The Rolling Cone Food Truck, Pete’s Pops, Happy Dough Lucky and more. The Terrapin Beer Co. Beer Garden offers beer, hard sparkling water, soda and water for purchase. Attendees that boat to the event or utilize the bike valet service courtesy of Coast in Bikes are eligible for a free beer.

Attendees can watch live performances from Unity the Band, Hot by Ziggy, Foreign Goods, Marcus Doucette, Plaid Hawaii and the Hale O Malo Dance Group throughout the evening.
