New study shows economic impacts of Port Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A new study shows Port Milwaukee has a big impact on the local economy.

The study shows Port Milwaukee provided more than 1,300 local jobs in 2017.

The cargo and vessel activity also generated more than $100 million in business revenue last year. The economic activity also produced more than $30 million in state and federal taxes.

"And really show why it's important and say to new customers, people that are giving Milwaukee a second look, that are thinking about bringing their business here, that are going through the site selection process and say this is a place where I want to work, where economic activity is robust. Port of Milwaukee is here to help them," says Port Milwaukee director Adam Schlicht.

Officials say Port Milwaukee promotes shipping and commerce throughout the region by providing access to domestic and international ships, rail, and over-the-road transportation.
