New Marquette poll shows a Walker and Burke tie

MILWAUKEE -- The numbers are crunched, the graphs are made, and a new edition of the Marquette Law School poll is ready to give us a glimpse of what voters are thinking.

10.0pt;font-family:\"Microsoft Sans Serif\",\"sans-serif\"\">\"The most striking thing is a shift from a 48-41 advantage for walker to a 46-46 shift.\" said Charles Franklin, director of the poll.

10.0pt;font-family:\"Microsoft Sans Serif\",\"sans-serif\"\">This month's poll of about 800 registered voters shows a dead heat between Republican Governor Scott Walker and his Democratic challenger Mary Burke.

10.0pt;font-family:\"Microsoft Sans Serif\",\"sans-serif\"\">But Walker still holds a three point lead in the minds of people who are the most motivated to hit the polls later this year.

10.0pt;font-family:\"Microsoft Sans Serif\",\"sans-serif\"\">\"That emphasizes what I think a lot of people have been talking about, that turnout in the fall is a very important part of the campaign.\" Franklin said.

10.0pt;font-family:\"Microsoft Sans Serif\",\"sans-serif\"\">Experts say the poll also shows people believe in Walker's ability to execute.

10.0pt;font-family:\"Microsoft Sans Serif\",\"sans-serif\"\">68 percent of people say that about Walker, while just 36 percent of people say the same for Burke.

10.0pt;font-family:\"Microsoft Sans Serif\",\"sans-serif\"\">\"There’s some issues that are helping the Governor, some issues that are helping Mary Burke. The great question of the campaign is how those balance out and how other opinions shift.\" Franklin said.

10.0pt;font-family:\"Microsoft Sans Serif\",\"sans-serif\"\">The one opinion voters seem to agree on is what type of background they want a candidate to come from. 59 percent say business experience is more important than political experience.
