Peterson judge to decide on mistrial motion
CHICAGO (AP) -- A judge will decide whether to put an end to a former suburban Chicago police sergeant's murder trial just days after it began.
Thursday's expected ruling on a defense motion for a mistrial follows several blunders by prosecutors seeking to prove Drew Peterson killed his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in 2004. Judge Edward Burmila admonished prosecutors Wednesday after their second witness started talking about finding a .38-caliber bullet on his driveway. He hinted Peterson may have planted it there to intimidate him. Prosecutors admitted under tough questioning by the judge that there was no evidence to support the claim. A visibly angry Burmila said the testimony may have undermined Peterson's ability to get a fair trial. Peterson is also a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson. |
