NY police department mourning 2nd officer death
BELLEROSE TERRACE, N.Y. (AP) -- Officers in a suburban New York police department who had just buried a colleague killed last week now have to brace for the funeral of another officer shot on the job.
Nassau County Officer Arthur Lopez was killed Tuesday after getting shot in what had started out as a traffic stop near the Belmont Park racetrack. Ex-convict Darrell Fuller was arrested on charges of shooting him as well as another driver, 52-year-old Queens resident Raymond Facey, in a subsequent carjacking. Lopez's death came the day after officers attended the funeral of Nassau County highway patrolman Joseph Olivieri. Olivieri was killed Thursday when he was hit by a car that came upon a crash scene to which he had responded. |
