Classes resuming in Newtown, minus Sandy Hook
NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) -- Parents in SUVs and pickup trucks are dropping off children and other students old enough to drive are pulling into the parking lot at the high school in Newtown, Conn., where schools are opening for the first time since last week's massacre.
One student who was dropped off Tuesday stopped at a large makeshift memorial at the high school made of paper angels on sticks, green and white balloons, stuffed animals and American flags. One cardboard sign reads, "Our hearts and prayers are with you" and "little angels up in heaven." A lone police officer is directing traffic into the school, and several patrol cars are stationed at the school's front entrance. |
