Meet CBS 58’s Pet of the Week: Joey
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A detective with the Milwaukee Police Department is trying to get support to help children in Africa.
He started with his own co-workers and says the support was overwhelming.
“Everybody in our homicide unit from our Captain to our Detective gave me money to buy a pair of shoes,” said Milwaukee Police Detective James Hensley.
Together they collected $800 to get 50 pairs of shoes for kids at a school in South Africa. The school helps kids who have had extreme trauma in their lives. Many of the kids only have socks to wear or cut the toes out of old shoes when their feet grow.
That’s why they sent shoes that adjust to several more sizes so they can get as much use out of them as possible.
“Giving them toys, educational items or the shoes was absolutely incredible because there are some that literally, they’ve never owned anything not a nice pair of shoes, they’ve never owned anything,” said Detective Hensley.
