Milwaukee -

Alderwoman Mielele Coggs is urging city workers to sign up for [email protected] to report security concerns and unsafe working conditions.

It's the first formal action taken since the March 22nd murder of home inspector Gregory "Ziggy" Zyszkiewicz during an attempted carjacking.

The City of Milwaukee’s Department of Employee Relations has created the email account.

Alderwoman Coggs says the information will remain confidential.

It offers a central location to report and review workplace conditions and safety concerns with an adjoining website.

The Department of Employee Relations completed a comprehensive review of departmental policies and practices related to city employees working in the field, including collecting and analyzing information about field safety practices from departments, assessing the needs and priorities of the departments based on employee feedback and exploring the availability of resources to address those concerns.

Specific recommendations stemming from that review were presented at the April 13, 2017 meeting of the Finance and Personnel Committee.

“I strongly encourage any city employee who has safety suggestions or concerns to make use of the [email protected] email account,” Alderwoman Coggs said. “When sending from a non-city email account, the information you provide is confidential and could end up helping to protect the safety and welfare of you and or your coworkers.”

The Department of Employee Relations has created a webpage with important employee safety information. Click here
